Bursa Malaysia closed lower on Sept 23 as profit-taking in selected heavyweights and weaker sentiment towards petrochemical counters, amid continued declines in oil prices, dragged the benchmark index into the red.
At 5pm, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) fell 7.07 points to 1,676.43 from its close of 1,683.50 on Sept 22. The index traded between 1,675.15 and 1,685.37 during the session.
Broader indices were also weaker, with the FBM 70 slipping 10.61 points to 17,833.80, while the F4GBM declined 3.27 points to 1,012.07.
The FBM Emas lost 36.79 points to 12,477.35, while the FBM Shariah eased 6.16 points to 12,320.22.
Among the most actively traded counters, Zetrix AI Bhd fell two sen to 18.5 sen on 294.01 million shares, while JAKS Resources Bhd slipped 0.5 sen to 16.5 sen.
VS Industry bucked the weaker trend, rising two sen to 25 sen, while Velesto Energy Bhd fell one sen to 23 sen. Capital A Bhd declined 1.5 sen to 25.5 sen.
Trading activity eased, with 3.2 billion shares worth RM2.99 billion changing hands compared to 3.57 billion shares valued at RM3.15 billion on Sept 22.
