For the first eight months of 2026, the value of total exports of goods increased by 42.5 percent from a year ago. Concurrently, the value of imports of goods increased by 43.2 percent year on year, the data showed.
A spokesperson for the HKSAR government said that merchandise exports continued to surge in August amid robust demand for AI-related electronic products, recording the nineteenth consecutive month of double-digit growth. Exports to almost all major markets increased markedly.
The spokesperson expected sustained global demand for AI-related electronic products to continue supporting Hong Kong’s merchandise trade performance in the near term. (1 Hong Kong dollar equals 0.13 U.S. dollars)
