Malaysia Secures Over RM28 Billion In Potential China Investments

Malaysia has secured more than RM28 billion in potential investments following a three-day working visit to Shanghai and Hangzhou, covering semiconductors, artificial intelligence, robotics, electric vehicles, biotechnology and advanced medical devices.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the potential investments came from a roundtable involving 21 companies and targeted meetings with five major Chinese industrial groups.

“The vast majority of these companies expressed their commitment to increasing investments due to their confidence in our stability and the policies we are currently implementing.

“Overall, these business meetings recorded potential investments valued at over RM28 billion,” he said after launching the Malaysia Pavilion at the 5th Global Digital Trade Expo in Hangzhou today.

Anwar later met Chinese Premier Li Qiang, where he said Malaysia-China ties went beyond traditional diplomacy and were built on trust and mutual confidence.

“Our relationship goes beyond ordinary diplomatic relations. This relationship is built on trust and confidence, and we need partners who value this friendship,” he said.

Li said Malaysia-China relations remained a priority in Beijing’s neighbourhood diplomacy and that closer communication and coordination could provide greater certainty amid global uncertainty.

He also said Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit to Malaysia in April marked the start of a new “50 Years Golden” chapter in bilateral ties, with China ready to deepen cooperation in science and technology, digital trade and vocational skills.

China has remained Malaysia’s largest trading partner for 17 consecutive years, with bilateral trade reaching US$113.82 billion, or RM456.68 billion, from January to August this year.

The visit was Anwar’s fourth to China since becoming Prime Minister in 2022.
