The Registrar of Societies (RoS) has ordered the suspension of all Perikatan Nasional (PN) activities effective Sept 23, pending an explanation from the coalition over complaints received by the department, Astro Awani reported.
RoS said the suspension was issued under Subsection 13(2A) of the Societies Act 1966 following a notice issued to PN on Sept 22.
The department stressed that the notice was not a decision to cancel PN’s registration but was intended to give the coalition an opportunity to respond to the complaints within a reasonable period.
RoS said the suspension order was issued to safeguard the interests of the organisation and prevent further breaches of its constitution while the process is ongoing.
The complaints were formally lodged by Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) on Aug 11 and include an allegation that Bersatu was not involved in a PN Supreme Council meeting held on July 16.
The complaint also covers issues concerning Bersatu’s position and membership within the coalition.
RoS urged the public to refer to official information issued by the department and avoid spreading unverified information that could cause confusion.
The development follows Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s call for RoS to make an immediate decision on the complaint last Saturday.
Muhyiddin said eight matters allegedly breached by PN’s leadership had been raised and should be examined by the authorities.
The suspension comes as RoS continues to review the complaints and PN’s response to the notice.
