Prasarana Malaysia Bhd will install platform safety barriers at stations along the Kelana Jaya and Ampang/Sri Petaling lines following a series of incidents, with the first installation at Putra Heights Station now 85% complete.
Rapid KL began the installation on Aug 1, with Putra Heights selected as the pilot station to test and refine the barrier design, installation methods and operational requirements before the project is rolled out progressively to other stations.
The barriers will be installed at stations across both lines, except for five underground stations on the Kelana Jaya Line that already have automatic platform screen doors.
Prasarana Group acting president and group chief executive officer Dr Prodyut Dutt said the installation was part of measures to strengthen passenger safety at stations.
“Passenger safety has always been our priority. The installation of these platform safety barriers is another proactive measure to strengthen safety at stations, while giving passengers greater confidence when waiting for and boarding trains,” he said.
Installation will be carried out in stages and coordinated with daily maintenance schedules to minimise disruption to train services.
Phase One of the project is expected to be fully completed by mid-2027.
