The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has launched an investigation into losses suffered by UiTM Holdings Sdn Bhd in 2023, including an alleged RM42 million payment unrelated to a solar project in Gambang, Pahang.
MACC said the investigation covers various issues involving the development of the 50-megawatt solar project, including the payment which was made for purposes unrelated to the project and without approval from the company’s board of directors.
“The MACC stresses that the investigation is still ongoing given the complexity of the case, which involves technical aspects, and is awaiting further instructions from the prosecution,” the commission said in a statement today.
MACC said it would also examine other relevant issues, including governance weaknesses highlighted by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
MACC Chief Commissioner Datuk Seri Abd Halim Aman said the investigation was being conducted under Section 23 of the MACC Act 2009. He said the commission would seek to complete the investigation as soon as possible in an independent and fair manner.
Anwar said yesterday that Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) should conduct a comprehensive review of the governance and management structure of UiTM Holdings following the losses incurred by the subsidiary.
He said improvements or changes to officials should be made if the issues involved ordinary management weaknesses, while firm action should be taken if wrongdoing was proven.
