Foreign Investors Turn Net Sellers On Bursa With RM473 Million Outflow

Foreign investors returned to net selling on Bursa Malaysia last week, recording net outflows of RM473.1 million after turning net buyers in the preceding week, according to MBSB Research.

In its latest fund flow report, MBSB said foreign institutions were net buyers on only one of the five trading days, with a RM20.4 million inflow recorded on Tuesday.

The largest foreign outflow occurred on Wednesday at RM230.7 million, followed by Friday at RM132.8 million, Thursday at RM109.3 million and Monday at RM20.7 million.

By sector, Energy attracted the largest foreign net inflow at RM104 million, followed by Technology at RM64.8 million and Transport & Logistics at RM25.2 million.

Conversely, Utilities recorded the heaviest foreign selling with RM289.2 million in net outflows, followed by Financial Services at RM162.5 million and Healthcare at RM152.3 million.

Meanwhile, local institutions reversed two consecutive weeks of net selling to register RM384 million in net purchases.

Local retail investors remained net buyers for a fifth straight week, recording inflows of RM89 million.

Trading activity, however, weakened across all investor groups. Average daily trading volume fell 36.3% among foreign institutions, 12% among local institutions and 3.3% among retail investors.
