Bursa Malaysia closed sharply lower on Sept 29 as surging bond yields and elevated oil prices weighed on risk appetite, sending the benchmark index down more than 26 points.
At 5pm, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) fell 26.06 points or 1.56% to 1,643.96 from Monday’s close of 1,670.02. The index traded between 1,643.36 and 1,665.32 during the session.
Weakness extended across the broader market. The FBM 70 shed 77.68 points or 0.44% to 17,610.09, while the F4GBM declined 13.09 points or 1.3% to 994.17.
The FBM Emas dropped 149.32 points or 1.20% to 12,265.47, while the FBM Shariah lost 114.71 points or 0.94% to 12,127.61.
Among the most actively traded stocks, Zetrix AI Bhd fell 2.5 sen to 16.5 sen on about 413.41 million shares, while JAKS Resources Bhd gained half a sen to 19 sen with 86.32 million shares traded.
Land & General Bhd slipped 1.5 sen to 20.5 sen on 44.24 million shares, while MAG Holdings Bhd was unchanged at 15.5 sen with 41.9 million shares changing hands. Ni Hsin Group Bhd was also flat at 39 sen on 31.24 million shares.
Trading activity strengthened, with turnover rising to 3.31 billion units worth RM2.95 billion compared to 3.11 billion units valued at RM2.4 billion on Sept 28.
