The Selangor government has launched the Selangor Rail Industry Hub to strengthen local train assembly, system integration, testing and workforce development as the state seeks to build a larger role in Malaysia’s growing rail ecosystem.
Launched through Invest Selangor Bhd at InnoTrans 2026 in Berlin, the hub will be developed at Taman Perindustrian Zurah in Rasa, Hulu Selangor, with the first phase commencing immediately across about 36,000 sq ft of built-up space at SIRIM Bhd’s premises, providing access to technical validation and compliance under Malaysia Railway Industry Standards.
A second phase will expand assembly and testing activities on a 19-acre site adjacent to SIRIM, while the longer-term third phase will involve a 125-acre dedicated rail industrial park about 2km away to accommodate further industry growth.
The development is aimed at addressing the overhaul requirements of ageing rail assets, strengthening supply-chain resilience and capitalising on Selangor’s connectivity to Port Klang and major rail corridors.
The hub will focus on four areas: Local train assembly and testing, proof-of-concept and system integration, train simulator development and supply-chain localisation. Talent development will be supported through the Rail Teaching Factory framework and the Selangor Talent Action Plan for Rail Industry.
SIRIM has also received letters of intent from MMC Engineering Bhd, Pecca Leather and Xcel Itech Sdn Bhd. MMC Engineering plans to establish local train assembly and testing operations, while Pecca will develop a specialised training academy for rail seating and upholstery standards.
Xcel Itech will meanwhile collaborate with SIRIM on the localisation, testing, validation and commercialisation of train simulator platforms and frameworks.
Selangor State Executive Councillor for Investment, Trade and Mobility Ng Sze Han, who led the state delegation to Germany, said Selangor’s concentration of rail assets creates opportunities to strengthen capabilities in asset lifecycle management, localised system overhauls and smart digital integration.
“The Selangor Rail Industry Hub is a strategic step to capture these opportunities and solidify Selangor’s position as a regional engineering anchor,” he said.
