Bursa Malaysia closed broadly lower on Oct 1, with the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) falling 20.81 points, or 1.26%, to 1,630.36 as continued selling pressure tracked a mixed and cautious Wall Street session overnight.
The benchmark index, which closed at 1,651.17 on Sept 30, traded between 1,630.10 and 1,649.87 during the day.
Weakness extended across the broader market. The FBM 70 dropped 215.69 points, or 1.23%, to 17,358.98, while the F4GBM fell 12.12 points, or 1.22%, to 984.34.
The FBM Emas declined 148.49 points, or 1.21%, to 12,143.53, while the FBM Shariah lost 163.34 points, or 1.34%, to 12,013.01.
Heavyweight counters were mostly lower. Maybank slipped four sen to RM9.95, Public Bank fell three sen to RM4.67 and CIMB shed 10 sen to RM7.69. Tenaga Nasional declined six sen to RM12.90, while IHH Healthcare lost 13 sen to RM7.70.
Among the most actively traded stocks, Zetrix AI Bhd added 0.5 sen to 16.5 sen on 188.38 million shares, while VS Industry Bhd fell one sen to 27 sen.
JAKS Resources Bhd dropped 2.5 sen to 18 sen, newly ACE Market listed GB Bond Holdings Bhd slid 4.5 sen to 20.5 sen, while HHRG Bhd gained 0.5 sen to 16.5 sen.
Trading activity eased, with turnover falling to 3.1 billion units worth RM2.7 billion, from 3.63 billion units valued at RM3.62 billion on Sept 30.
