MBSB Backs RM66 Million Solar Rollout Across 48 Sites

Solar photovoltaic systems are set to be installed at 13 Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) campuses and 35 BHPetrol stations nationwide following RM66.35 million in financing provided to GO Energy Sdn Bhd by MBSB Bank Bhd.

Of the financing, RM63.3 million will part-finance the development of self-consumption solar PV systems at the UiTM campuses, while RM3.05 million will support rooftop solar installations at the selected BHPetrol stations.

The UiTM project will cover rooftop, car park and ground-mounted solar systems under a long-term energy supply arrangement, with the electricity generated used by the campuses.

At the 35 BHPetrol stations, rooftop solar systems will be installed, operated and maintained for on-site electricity consumption.

MBSB Group Chief Executive Officer Rafe Haneef said the projects could help the institutions reduce exposure to electricity tariff increases while cutting emissions.

“Solar isn’t just a sustainability statement, it’s a direct benefit to bottomline. By financing rooftop and ground-mounted systems across 13 UiTM campuses and 35 BHPetrol stations, we’re helping these institutions lock in cheaper, self-generated electricity for years to come, insulating them from future tariff hikes while cutting emissions. We encourage businesses and corporates to partner with us as we have allocated RM1 billion to accelerate solar adoption across industries, supported by a team with extensive experience and specialised knowledge of the sector,” he said.

UiTM Energy & Facilities Sdn Bhd Chief Executive Officer Ir. Noor Iziddin Abdullah Ghazali said the solar installations would help lower energy bills and provide greater certainty over long-term operating costs.

“These projects translate directly into lower energy bills for our campuses and greater budget certainty over the long term. Reducing our exposure to grid tariffs frees up resources that can be redirected toward our core academic mission, while advancing our sustainability commitments. We’re glad to have a partner in MBSB Bank that understands both the financial and environmental case for this transition,” he said.

The financing forms part of efforts to expand the use of renewable energy for self-consumption in Malaysia’s education and commercial sectors.
