Sunway Medical Centre Damansara Plans Cancer Centre Expansion

Sunway Medical Centre Damansara (SMCD) has officially launched its hospital in Kota Damansara, with Sunway Healthcare Group planning further expansion that could include a dedicated cancer and nuclear medicine centre and senior living facilities.

The hospital began operations in December 2024 and is the fourth tertiary hospital under Sunway Healthcare Group, serving communities across the Klang Valley as well as expatriates and international patients.

Sunway Healthcare Group President Dato’ Lau Beng Long said about four acres had been earmarked for future development, including a proposed Cancer and Nuclear Medicine Centre featuring PET-CT, linear accelerators, a cyclotron and a Proton Beam Therapy Centre.

The proposed Proton Beam Therapy Centre would be the first of its kind in Malaysia, according to the group.

SMCD also plans to expand its healthcare ecosystem with ambulatory services at Sunway Specialist Centre Damansara and a Sunway Traditional Chinese Medicine Centre, which is expected to open in the first quarter of 2027.

The hospital said it recorded its first EBITDA-positive month within nine months of opening, ahead of the typical three-to-five-year ramp-up period for hospitals.

Selangor Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said private healthcare investments such as SMCD would help strengthen the state’s capacity to meet growing demand for specialised care.
