Peacock is moving the Fast & Furious franchise into television, with a new scripted series now officially ordered and targeting a 2028 premiere.
The series was first announced as being in development earlier this year. Peacock has now given the project a series order, bringing the long-running film franchise closer to its first live-action scripted TV adaptation.
Vin Diesel will executive produce alongside One Race’s Sam Vincent, Original Film’s Neal H. Moritz and Pavun Shetty, and Chris Morgan of Jeff Kirschenbaum & Chris Morgan Productions.
Mike Daniels and Wolfe Coleman will serve as co-showrunners, writers of the pilot and executive producers.
Peacock is targeting 2028 for the series’ debut, putting its planned release alongside the next film in the franchise, Fast Forever. The movie is currently scheduled to arrive in cinemas on March 17, 2028.
The television series is expected to expand the franchise beyond its established film stories and characters. Diesel previously said the move to television came after years of interest in exploring more of the franchise’s characters and their stories.
The Fast & Furious universe has previously appeared on television through Netflix’s animated series Fast & Furious: Spy Racers, which ran for six seasons from 2019 to 2021.
The new Peacock series will be produced by Universal Television, a division of Universal Studios Group. If the current schedule holds, 2028 will mark a significant year for the franchise, with both its new TV series and Fast Forever arriving around the same period.
