Genting Gold Heist 7 Arrested

Police have arrested seven individuals, including several foreign nationals, to assist investigations into the armed robbery of jewellery weighing 2.5kg and worth more than RM1.7 million at a shopping mall in Genting Highlands, Bentong, in August.

Acting Pahang Police Chief Datuk Azry Akmar Ayob said the suspects, aged between 25 and 64, were detained in the Klang Valley and Penang between Aug 20 and Oct 3.

The latest arrest involved an individual detained at Kuala Lumpur International Airport shortly after arriving in Malaysia.

Azry said the suspect remains under remand, while the other six individuals have been released on police bail.

Police believe all seven have links to the main suspect, who remains at large.

The case is being investigated under Sections 395 and 397 of the Penal Code for gang robbery involving the use of a weapon.

On Aug 17, three men armed with axes and crowbars allegedly escaped with 81 pieces of jewellery weighing about 2.5kg from a gold shop at the mall.

The stolen items were valued at more than RM1.7 million.
