Bursa Malaysia remained firmly in negative territory at the midday break on Oct 7, tracking weaker regional markets as persistent selling pressure and elevated oil prices weighed on sentiment.
At 12.30pm, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) fell 19.39 points, or 1.19%, to 1,613.96 from the previous day’s closing of 1,633.35. The index moved between 1,612.42 and 1,633.54 during the morning session.
The broader indices were mixed. The FBM 70 edged up 12.08 points, or 0.07%, to 17,746.19, while the F4GBM declined 8.18 points, or 0.83%, to 983.18.
The FBM Emas shed 95.40 points, or 0.78%, to 12,137.47, while the FBM Shariah bucked the weaker trend, gaining 3.55 points, or 0.03%, to 12,162.53.
Market breadth remained negative, with 580 decliners outpacing 401 gainers, while 512 counters were unchanged, 1,297 untraded and 13 suspended.
Among the top losers, Nestlé (M) Bhd fell RM1.56 to RM89.70, Hong Leong Bank Bhd dropped 62 sen to RM21.46, while Fraser & Neave Holdings Bhd declined 58 sen to RM21.14.
CIMB Group Holdings Bhd lost 38 sen to RM7.32, with 18.43 million shares traded, while Hong Leong Financial Group Bhd slipped 36 sen to RM17.98.
On the upside, Mi Technovation Bhd led gainers, jumping 36 sen to RM6.36, followed by Batu Kawan Bhd, which advanced 32 sen to RM19.60.
Malaysian Pacific Industries Bhd added 26 sen to RM45.22, Petronas Dagangan Bhd gained 22 sen to RM19.34, while Critical Holdings Bhd rose 20 sen to RM2.89.
Trading activity was led by Top Glove Corporation Bhd, which eased two sen to 85.5 sen after moving between 85 sen and 95 sen, with about 242.94 million shares changing hands.
Zetrix AI Bhd fell one sen to eight sen on volume of about 167.99 million shares, while Metronic Global Bhd was flat at 0.5 sen, with 65.18 million shares traded.
Supermax Corporation Bhd was unchanged at 46 sen on 59.64 million shares, while VS Industry Bhd slipped 0.5 sen to 32.5 sen, with 54.29 million shares traded.
Total market turnover stood at 2.37 billion units worth RM1.7 billion at the midday break.
