Decliners Overwhelm Gainers As Selling Pressure Swept Across The Broader Market

Selling pressure swept across Bursa Malaysia’s broader market, with decliners overwhelming gainers by more than two to one as investors continued to offload shares across technology, plantation and consumer-related counters.

Market breadth remained firmly negative, with 813 losers against just 378 gainers, while 482 counters were unchanged, 2,828 untraded and 13 suspended.

Trading activity also slowed, with total turnover easing to 3.51 billion shares worth RM3.46 billion compared to 3.83 billion shares valued at RM3.52 billion in the previous session.

The widespread weakness saw several heavyweight counters suffer sharp losses, although selective buying in energy and consumer stocks provided some support.

Malaysian Pacific Industries Bhd topped the losers’ list, plunging RM1.70 to RM43.50, making it the biggest decliner in absolute price terms.

Plantation heavyweights also came under pressure, with United Plantations Bhd tumbling 78 sen to RM30.40 and Kuala Lumpur Kepong Bhd shedding 56 sen to RM20.54.

UMS Integration Ltd declined 50 sen to RM8.80, while Dutch Lady Milk Industries Bhd dropped 46 sen to RM29.24, rounding out the five biggest losers.

The losses highlighted the extent of selling pressure across multiple sectors, particularly technology and plantation stocks.

Despite the broad-based sell-off, Petronas Gas Bhd emerged as the session’s biggest gainer, advancing 54 sen to RM17.80.

Nestlé (M) Bhd followed with a 42 sen increase to RM89.44, while Chin Teck Plantations Bhd gained 26 sen to RM10.54.

Hengyuan Refining Company Bhd also climbed 26 sen to RM3.77, with approximately 10.04 million shares changing hands, reflecting active buying interest.

Bus Cap Bhd rounded out the top five gainers, rising 18 sen to 99.5 sen on trading volume of about 11.03 million shares.

The contrasting performances underscored selective buying interest in a handful of counters, but gains were insufficient to offset the broader market weakness.

With declining stocks outnumbering advancing counters by a wide margin and overall trading activity moderating, the session reflected sustained selling pressure and cautious investor sentiment across Bursa Malaysia.
