Bursa Malaysia ended higher on Friday, with the FBM KLCI gaining 0.47% as investors welcomed Budget 2027 and bargain hunting supported a rebound following the market’s recent sell-off.
The benchmark index rose 7.44 points to 1,608.45 from Thursday’s close of 1,601.01, after trading between 1,600.55 and 1,609.94 during the session.
Rakuten Trade Sdn Bhd vice-president of equity research Thong Pak Leng said Budget 2027 could provide fresh catalysts for domestic consumption, infrastructure and selected growth sectors.
He said the recent market correction had brought valuations of selected blue-chip stocks to more attractive levels, although persistent foreign selling remained a headwind.
“While persistent foreign selling remains a key headwind, domestic institutional support and resilient economic fundamentals should help cushion the downside,” he told Bernama.
Thong added that oversold conditions had encouraged bargain hunting, supported by firmer regional emerging markets. However, elevated energy prices and bond market volatility continued to pose risks, with Brent crude easing 1.3% to US$102.91 per barrel.
YTL Power International contributed the most among selected index movers, rising 14 sen to RM5.70. 99 Speed Mart Retail and Press Metal Aluminium each gained 11 sen to RM3.23 and RM7.23 respectively. The three counters collectively added 5.45 points to the benchmark.
