The National Sports Day 2026 celebration at Bukit Jalil scheduled for Saturday has been postponed due to haze, the Youth and Sports Ministry said.
In a statement today, the ministry said the decision was made after discussions with relevant government agencies, taking into account public health and the safety of participants, organisers and the public.
A new date will be announced once air quality improves to safe levels for outdoor activities, it said.
The ministry also expressed its appreciation for the concern raised by Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim over the haze affecting the country.
Meanwhile, National Sports Day events in other states and locations will depend on local conditions and the decisions of the respective administrations.
As of the ministry’s announcement, celebrations in Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Johor, Kedah, Penang, Negeri Sembilan and Melaka had also been postponed.
Events in Pahang, Terengganu, Kelantan, Perlis, Perak, Sabah, Sarawak and the Federal Territory of Labuan were proceeding as planned.
The ministry urged the public to limit outdoor physical activities and follow health advice issued by the Health Ministry and the Department of Environment.
