Singapore shares opened higher on Friday, with the Straits Times Index (STI) rising 16.77 points, or 0.31 per cent, to 5,429.73 as at 9.10am.
Market breadth was positive, with 112 advancers against 71 decliners. Trading volume stood at 78.72 million shares, valued at S$292.67 million.
Among key index constituents, DBS rose S$0.02 to S$73.87, while OCBC traded at S$29.23 and UOB at S$40.27.
Other actively watched counters included Yangzijiang Shipbuilding at S$4.97, Singtel at S$4.27, JMSE at S$26.05 and Singapore Exchange (SGX) at S$20.66.
Real estate investment trusts (REITs) were mixed. CapitaLand Ascendas REIT fell one cent, or 0.46 per cent, to S$2.19, while CapitaLand Integrated Commercial Trust traded at S$2.26. Mapletree Industrial Trust stood at S$1.86, Suntec REIT at S$1.35, Frasers Centrepoint Trust at S$2.09 and Keppel DC REIT at S$2.13.
In the derivatives market, total volume reached 18,190 contracts. The FTSE China A50 Index Futures for October stood at 13,717, while Nikkei 225 Index Futures for December traded at 68,510. SGX FTSE Taiwan Index Futures for October was at 24,263, while MSCI Singapore Index Futures for October stood at 505.70
