Tech-Led Rally Lifts Hang Seng, But Biotech Shares Lag

Hong Kong shares rallied on Friday, with the Hang Seng Index gaining 425.56 points or 1.79% to close at 24,211.35, supported by strong gains in technology stocks.

The Hang Seng TECH Index outperformed, rising 124.46 points or 3.06% to 4,197.84, while the Hang Seng China Enterprises Index added 137.29 points or 1.71% to 8,147.87.

The HKEX Tech 100 Index also advanced 129.41 points or 2.08% to 6,348.15. However, the Hang Seng Biotech Index slipped 7.17 points or 0.05% to 15,678.02.

Technology heavyweights led trading activity, with Tencent Holdings rising 3.26% to HK$424.80 on turnover of HK$8.61 billion. Alibaba Group gained 2.59% to HK$107.00, while Xiaomi surged 9.72% to HK$25.96.

AIA Group added 2.89% to HK$71.25, while WuXi Biologics fell 0.46% to HK$53.85.

Total turnover on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange’s Main Board reached HK$209.19 billion, while the Growth Enterprise Market recorded HK$74 million.

Among the session’s biggest gainers, Brightstar Technology jumped 61.11% to HK$0.58, followed by Shimao Group, which rose 41.18% to HK$0.096.

On the downside, TH Medical-B plunged 34.17% to HK$183.00, making it the session’s biggest decliner among the listed counters provided.
