Vaccinated Travellers To Malaysia Need Only 7 Day Quarantine

Ministry of Health has issued a statement with regards to Prime Minister’s announcement on the proposed reduction of quarantine period for foreigners entering Malaysia to boost the economy and tourism.

In line with this, the new guideline will reduce the quarantine period from 14 days to mere 7 days for those fully vaccinated while those who are partially or not vaccinated to be quarantined for 10 days. This new ruling applies to all Malaysians returning, permanent residents, diplomats or, any foreign travelers permitted by the immigration department.

Those who arrive from high-risk zones or have been in close contact with a positive Covid-19 patient will also be now subject to the new order issued by MOH. This will take effect from 18 October, however, those who are currently undergoing quarantine will be given a Release Order based on the new guideline.

For instance, if they have already serviced the 7 days or for those not vaccinated done the 10 days mandatory isolation will be able to socialise. For those in their 5th day will undergo an RT-PCR test on the 6th day and found to be negative will be given the Release Order. Meanwhile, those who are not vaccinated will undergo an RT-PCR test after the 8th day of mandatory quarantine and if it’s negative will receive the Release Order from MOH.

This approach is different from Singapore and UK which does not require quarantine for vaccinated individuals entering its country but is subject to which country they arrive from. Malaysia is taking the border opening very carefully as to prevent any untoward spread of new variants like the highly contagious Delta. Outbreaks in the country have been relatively controlled since the vaccination level hit the 80% upward.

Nevertheless, the latest move will revive and rebuild the battered economy especially the tourism sector while it may be tempting the cautionary approach is well received.
