FTSE BM KLCI Lower with Escalated Tensions Concerns

Kuala Lumpur, Feb 22 – Malaysian shares ended lower today as the market breadth remained negative. Major stock markets in the Asia region stumbled down with escalating tensions between Russia and Ukraine battered risk sentiment worldwide and sent investors scurrying to safe-haven assets. US stock markets were closed last night for Washington’s Day.

** Bursa Malaysia inched lower on Tuesday, the FTSE BM KLCI shed 5.73 points or –0.36% to 1,576.96.

** The FTSE BM KLCI opened at 1,582.69. The index fluctuated between 1,567.19 – 1,581.05.

** 286 counters are gainers, 378 counters are unchanged, while 779 counters are losers.

** Total volume of 4,330,242,700 shares changed hands; while Turnover of RM3,164,295,456.

** The Top 5 Gainers : PMBTECH-LA (19.50, +0.60) ; PMBTECH (19.40,+0.52) ; NESTLE (136.40, +0.40) ; MSC (4.69, +0.29) ; HSI-HMT (0.54, +0.29)

** The Top 5 Losers : MPI (34.50, -0.80) ; BKAWAN (24.54, -0.76) ; KESM (10.22, -0.62) ; HEIM (21.72, -0.32) ; VITROX (7.45, -0.30)

** The Top 5 Most Active Stocks : DNEX (1.12, -0.05) ; TAWIN (0.16, -0.02) ; SMTRACK (0.255, -0.005) ; AT (0.025, -0.005) ; XOX (0.025, -0.005)

** Singapore’s Straits Times Index (STI) down 38.13 or -1.11% to 3,4008.58 ; Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index declined 650.07 points or -2.69% at 23,520.00;  Japan’s Nikkei 225 dropped 461.26 or -1.71% at 26,449.61; and Korea’s KOSPI ended lower 37.01 points or 1.35% to 2,706.79;  Shanghai’s SSE Composite Index down 33.47 points or -0.96% to 3,457.15
