Bursa Traded in Range Bound While Asian Equities Remained Cautious Ahead of Biden-Xi Call

Kuala Lumpur, Mar 18 –Bursa Malaysia closed marginally higher on Friday as investors were on cautious mood before the weekend. While the market breadth remained negative with losers led gainers. The Asian equities markets closed mixed with cautious mood ahead of a teleconversation between US President Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping challenge the bulls. Also, a retreat after nearly 3 days of upbeat performance as anxiety intensifies over peace talks between Russia-Ukraine. Japan’s Nikkei 225 Index crept mildly higher, a reflection of failed cheer the BOJ status-quo and its readiness to offer more subsidies to counter inflation.

** The FTSE BM KLCI rose 0.38 points  or  0.02% at 1,591.26.

** The FTSE BM KLCI opened at 1,593.68 . The index fluctuated between 1,583.25 –  1,594.76.

** 425 counters are gainers,  448 counters are unchanged, while 468 counters are losers.

** Total volume of 3,329,737,700 shares changed hands ; while Turnover of RM 5,709,245,983.

** The Top 5 Gainers : IHS046000824 (102.50, +2.00) ; CARLSBRG (20.72, +0.74) ; F&N (21.20, +0.56) ; PMBTECH (17.22, +0.40) ; TENAGA (9.42, +0.34)

** The Top 5 Losers : MPI (33.80, -1.40) ; HLBANK (20.00, -0.64) ; HONGSENG (2.61, -0.31) ; KESM (8.40, -0.27) ; PETGAS (16.64, -0.26)

** Singapore’s Straits Times Index (STI) rose 13.89 points  or  +0.42% to 3,336.60 ; Hong Kong’s HSI shed 88.83 points or -0.41% at 21,412.40 ;  Japan’s Nikkei 225 up 174.54 points or +0.65% at 25,827.43; and Korea’s KOSPI rose 12.51 points or +0.46% to 2,707.02;  Shanghai’s SSE Index climbed 36.03 points or 1.12% at 3,251.07; Australia’s All Ordinaries up 49.60 points or 0.66% to 7571.20
