FBM KLCI Lifted By Dip-Buying

Kuala Lumpur, June 16 – Bursa Malaysia closed in positive territory on Thursday with the bell-weathered index, KLCI increased by 0.94%. The key index was buoyed by dip-buying on the consumer-staples and defensive stocks, with Nestle leading the pack of gainers, the counter soared a staggering RM6.80 today to close at RM140. Overall the market breadth remained negative with losers outpaced gainers. Meanwhile, the trading volume remained subdued.

Meanwhile, Asian stocks generally closed in mildly negative territory today, as most of the indices pared early gains as a relief rally following the Federal Reserve’s meeting petered out. Going froward, traders will be shifting focus to the prospect of higher US interest rates to rein in inflation.

** The FTSE BM KLCI up 13.72 points or 0.94% at 1,472.77.

** The FTSE BM KLCI opened at 1,469.10 . The index fluctuated between 1,461.94 – 1476.02.

** 392 counters are gainers, 413 counters are unchanged, while 556 counters are losers.

** Total volume of 2,475,519,400 shares changed hands; while Turnover of RM 1,840,296,514

** Singapore’s Straits Times Index (STI) down 8.45 points or -0.27% to 3,097.40; Hong Kong’s HSI ceded 462.78 points or -2.17% at 20,845.43 ;  Japan’s Nikkei 225 climbed 105.04 points or +0.40% at 26,431.20 ; Korea’s Kospi Index up 4.03 points or +0.16% at 2,451.41 ; Shanghai’s SSE Index dropped 20.02 points or -0.61% at 3,285.38 ; Australia’s All Ordinaries index down 2.10 points or -0.031% at 6,783.70.
