A Sea of Green for Asian Equities

Kuala Lumpur, July 20 – Bursa Malaysia inched up higher on Wednesday’s closing with the barometer index FBM KLCI climbed 8.22 points or +0.58% at 1,436.98. The market breadth of the overall market was positive with gainers led losers. Meanwhile, Asian stock markets closed in positive notes, following the broadly positive cues from the global markets overnight. Leading the pack was Japan’s Nikkei 225 which made the largest uptick in its index, back to the 27,000 point level with gains across most sectors, particularly technology, exporter and financial stocks. Optimism about upcoming earnings news is also aiding market sentiment, with a majority of the US companies beating expectations so far this season. Hong Kong and Shenzhen stock markets were performing well today as the e-hailing company Didi was slapped with a fine of 1 billion “to end the turbulence in the past year” and the move bodes well with investors as it is seen as a win-win solution for Beijing as well as the tech company.
