In the Absence of Major Data, Asian Stocks Ended Mixed

Kuala Lumpur, Oct 12 – Bursa Malaysia extended the losing streak today and ended in red. The benchmark index FBM KLCI shed 6.25 points or -0.45% to 1,380.57. Meanwhile most of Asian bourses ended in negative territory, with China’s firm determination to defend the zero-covid policy has caused the Hong Kong’s HSI dipped 0.78% lower. The economic slowdown in the world’s second largest economy has driven investors into risk-on mode. In addition to that, investors are eyeing on FOMC Meeting Minutes for clear directions amid hawkish Fed bets. Also, sluggish yields and an absence of major data/events restrict immediate moves. South Korea’s KOSPI gained 0.47% after the Bank of Korea announced a rate hike. 

** The FTSE BM KLCI opened at 1,388.28. The index fluctuated between 1,376.54– 1,391.47.

** 344 counters are gainers, 384 counters are unchanged, while 490 counters are losers.

** Total volume of 1,847,094,500 shares changed hands; while Turnover of RM 1,559,290,516

* Singapore’s Straits Times Index (STI) ceded 14.60 points or -0.47% to 3,090.40; Hong Kong’s HSI shed 131.33 points or -0.78% at 16,701.03; Japan’s Nikkei 225 Index down 4.42 points or -0.017% at 26,396.83; Shanghai’s SSE Composite Index climbed 45.71 points or +1.53% at 3,025.51; Korea’s Kospi Index rose 10.40 points or +0.47% at 2,202.47; Australia S&P/ASX 200 Index inched up 2.50 points or +0.038% at 6,647.50.
