Asian Bourses Ended Mixed Amidst Cautious Mood Over CPI

Kuala Lumpur, December 13 – Bursa Malaysia closed in negative territory on Tuesday with the benchmark index FBM KLCI ceded 4.26 points or -0.29% at 1,470.12. The main index moved lower, as the investors are staying on sidelines amidst cautious sentiment coupled with a lack of buying catalysts.

The newly-listed ITMAX System made an impressive first day of its listing, with its share price gained almost 29% to close at RM1.38

Meanwhile, Asian bourses ended in mixed as some were tracking a strong overnight performance from Wall Street, on the other hand some were dominated by cautious mood as market participants waited for key U.S. inflation data (CPI) and the conclusion of a Federal Reserve meeting for more directions on monetary policy.

As China has further eased the Covid curbs, hence it is expected to bring a recovery in Chinese equities ahead. It is notable that the rollback of restrictions on the movement of men, materials, and machines has brought optimism to the second-largest economy.

** The FTSE BM KLCI opened at 1,476.53. The index fluctuated between 1,469.47– 1,477.29.

** 411 counters are gainers, 388 counters are unchanged, while 485 counters are decliners.

** Total volume of 2.686 billion shares changed hands; while Turnover of RM 1.837 billion

Singapore’s Straits Times Index (STI) up 28.55 points or +0.88% to 3,268.21; Hong Kong’s HSI gained 132.57 points or +0.68% at 19,596.20; Japan’s Nikkei 225 Index climbed 112.52 points or +0.40% at 27,954.85; Shanghai’s SSE Composite Index down 2.72 points or -0.09% at 3,176.33; Korea’s Kospi Index declined 0.62 point or -0.03% at 2,372.40; Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 Index rose 22.50 points or +0.31% at 7,203.30.
