During the three-day New Year holiday, a total of 52.7 million domestic tourist visits in the mainland China, according to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
This year’s figure marks an increment of 0.44% on a yearly basis.
According to the Ministry of Culture of Tourism, the tourism revenue generated over the holiday has reached over RMB26.5 billion (about US$3.8 billion); increase by 4 percent from the same period last year.
China’s cultural and tourism market has remained stable and orderly during the holiday, the ministry was quoted as saying.
There was a steady recovery in the country’s medium- and long-distance travel, the ministry noted. Some online travel agencies reported a marked increase in ticket bookings for cross-provincial and cross-border tourism over the holiday.
Short-distance tours were highly-sought after by travelers during the period, with sustained popularity for ice and snow activities, camping, and role-playing games among young people, the ministry remarked.
