Asian Bourses Displayed Optimism Fueled by Cooling US Inflation Print

Kuala Lumpur, January 13 – Moving in tandem with the overnight rally of Wall Street and regional peers, Bursa Malaysia close the final day of the trading week in upbeat note with the benchmark index, FBM KLCI rose 2.74 points or +0.18% at 1,487.87.

The local main index was lifted by energy, technology and logistics sectors.

On the Asia-Pacific region, all bourses ended the week in upbeat note with the exception of Japan’s stock market.

Japan’s Nikkei 225 Index was leading the losses with the index slumped 1.25% to 26,119.52. Textile, construction and rail & bus sectors led the losses in the index. The speculation that the Bank of Japan may tighten its ultra-loose monetary policy as the yield on 10-year government bonds was pushed beyond the central bank’s cap of 0.5% on heavy selling ahead of next week’s policy setting meeting, had pushed the downward pressure on the stock market.

Meanwhile, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index led the gains by climbing 1.04% higher. As HSI is flirting with 22,000 point level, is heading for a fourth week of gains, lifted by the Tech Index which jumped 1.5%. Investors’ risk appetite is fueled by optimism the Federal Reserve will slow its rate increases this year.

While the Shanghai Composite Index also climbed 1.01% and standing firmly above 3,000 level.

The Australian S&P/ASX 200 advanced above the 7,300 level led by mining and energy stocks amid continued strength in commodity prices.
