RM500 Million Allocated For Citizen-Driven Small Public Infrastructure Projects: Rafizi

The Ministry of Economy Rafizi Ramli in a statement said the Inisiatif Kemudahan Rakyat (IKR) system has been developed which allows citizens to submit applications for small public infrastructure projects directly to the Ministry of Economy.

“RM500 million has been allocated for these small projects that the public can apply for,” said Rafizi, adding that the IKR was introduced by the Ministry of Economy to enable citizens to inform directly about their needs of small public infrastructure projects in their respective local areas.

They can then apply for those needs which will then be considered for allocation by the Ministry of Economy. This initiative is an aid from the Federal Government and aims to democratize government funds in financing the implementation of small public infrastructure projects that are under the jurisdiction and responsibility of State Governments and Local Governments.

The implementation of IKR also aims to help small contractors throughout Malaysia who will benefit from these small projects as well as speed up the implementation of small public infrastructure projects throughout the country for the benefit of the people.

The criteria for the small project application are as follows:

1/ Small infrastructure projects that provide immediate benefits to the local people/general public.

2/ The cost of the requested project does not exceed RM200,000.

3/ Projects can be implemented in the current year, are best value for money, features no luxury elements and are essential for public use (must have).

4/ The project is not for the purpose of individual needs/assets and is not located on privately owned land and does not involve land acquisition

5/ Projects do not overlap with projects that have obtained allocation approval from other Government agencies (Federal Government or State Government).

The public can now apply for assistance for small public infrastructure projects through the IKR website at ikr.ekonomi.gov.my starting today.
