Tesla has officially launched its highly popular all-electric Model Y sports utility vehicle in Malaysia, priced at RM199,000 to RM288,000.
“Delivery of the first car is expected to begin early next year,” confirmed Tesla’s regional director, Isabel Fan.
“We’re pleased to announce the opening of our first indoor supercharger station at Pavilion KL, featuring a total of eight superchargers. Additionally, we have plans for upcoming charging stations in Johor and Penang, ensuring our customers can easily travel from Malaysia to Singapore and Thailand,” Fan stated during the official launch event.
Tesla is fully committed to Malaysia and has unveiled an extensive development plan, covering experience centers, service and support facilities, and charging infrastructure, all aimed at providing a seamless Tesla ownership experience.
“For the year 2023’s assessment, Tesla owners can claim individual income tax relief of up to RM2,500 on expenses related to the installation, rental, purchase, or hire-purchase of electric vehicle (EV) charging facilities,” Fan highlighted.
She further explained, “Newly-registered Tesla EVs (completely built-up electric vehicles) will benefit from full import and excise duty exemption, along with a 100 percent road tax exemption.”
“Furthermore, companies renting non-commercial EVs may claim tax deductions on rental amounts up to RM300,000, covering the years of assessment from 2023 until 2025,” Fan added.
With strong government support and forward-thinking initiatives, Tesla is dedicated to strategically installing its supercharging stations throughout Malaysia.
The Model Y offers three trim options: Model Y (rear-wheel drive), Model Y Long Range, and Model Y Performance.
According to Tesla, this mid-size SUV seamlessly combines range, performance, safety, and cutting-edge technology, providing ample cargo space of over 2,100 liters and comfortable seating for up to five passengers.
“With its ultra-responsive motors, the Model Y can accelerate from 0 to 100 km per hour in just 3.7 seconds and boasts a range of up to 533 km (WLTP) per charge.”
“The Model Y also features an all-glass roof, autopilot, active safety features, and a HEPA air filtration system,” Tesla highlighted, showcasing the vehicle’s impressive offerings.
Key highlights of Tesla’s operation in Malaysia:
1. Vehicle Importation: Tesla is committed to introducing its cutting-edge lineup of electric vehicles to Malaysian consumers by offering its Model 3 and Model Y into the market. As the company aims to cater to the diverse needs and preferences of Malaysians, more of its models will be introduced in the future. Malaysian customers may now access its official website to place orders for the announced models, with Model Y already available on the website, priced competitively starting at RM199,000.
2. Supercharger Network: To address the crucial aspect of charging infrastructure, Tesla will invest significantly in setting up a vast network of fast-charging and regular-charging stations across strategic locations in Malaysia. This initiative is aimed at providing EV owners with a seamless and convenient charging experience, encouraging widespread EV adoption in the country.
3. Head Office and Service Centre: Tesla is set to establish its state-of-the-art head office and service centre in Cyberjaya, Selangor, which will serve as the central hub for all corporate operations, marketing, training, customer support activities and vehicle services equipped with advanced diagnostic tools and staffed with highly trained Tesla technicians to offer prompt and reliable after-sales services to customers.
4. Experience Centre: Tesla will establish its experience centres in key metropolitan areas across Malaysia, where customers can explore and experience the latest electric vehicle models firsthand. These centres will serve as interactive spaces for potential buyers to gain insights into the benefits of electric mobility and receive personalised assistance from knowledgeable Tesla sales representatives.
