Bank Negara Malaysia Clarifies Cyber Threat Alert

Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) today addressed a Financial Sector Cyber Threat Intelligence Platform (FinTIP) alert that has been circulating on social media since its issuance two days ago.

In a statement, BNM clarified that, along with the financial industry, it regularly share information about potential threats in the cyberspace.

“The FinTIP alert is a routine precautionary alert meant for financial institutions and their connected counterparties.

“The platform constantly scans the cyber landscape and highlights emerging threats including potential escalation in hacking activities,” the regulator said.

BNM added FinTIP alert allows financial institutions to take appropriate preventive measures to secure their systems and avoid any potential disruption to financial services.

On Oct 25, BNM issued a statement titled “Threat Alert: Pro-Israel Hacktivist Targeting Malaysian FI in Retaliation to DragonForce’s OpsBadai”.

The warning has been creating online buzz and was widely circulated on social media sites especially X, formerly known as Twitter.

On the same day, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim revealed that he had received multiple “threats” from western countries following Malaysia’s firm stand, support and commitment in defending the rights of the Palestinian people as well as criticism levelled against the Israeli government.
