Foundation Comes To School’s Aid For Bigger Canteen Space

Eco World Foundation helped with the expansion of the canteen for SJKT Ladang North Hummock in Setia Alam with Project Eko Kids Café, an initiative under the student aid programme’s (SAP) special projects for schools.

The Foundation, together with Eco Ardence, Eco World Development Group Berhad (EcoWorld Malaysia) expanded the school’s small canteen that required three recess sessions to accommodate its students.

“In view of the increasing student population, Eco World Foundation and integrated eco-township Eco Ardence stepped up to offer assistance in extending the canteen,” it said in a statement recently.

The RM40,000 Project Eko Kids Café includes a 20 metres by 5 metres extension involving roofing, flooring, and wiring inclusive of lights and fans together with four sets of canteen table and benches.

To commemorate the new canteen which was completed in August this year as part of its community commitment, a simple ceremony was held at the school last Friday.

Present at the event was Eco World Foundation chairman Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye, Eco World Foundation trustee Philip Mathews, EcoWorld Malaysia president and chief executive officer Datuk Chang Khim Wah, EcoWorld Malaysia divisional general manager Ho Kwee Hong and SJKT Ladang North Hummock principal Sooria Kumaree A/P Marimuthu.

Lee said: “I would like to thank Eco Ardence team for their dedication to creating a conducive and welcoming school environment for students.

He added the Foundation’s special project for schools had received requests from 43 schools in need of aid, of which three were selected namely SJKT Ladang North Hummock in Setia Alam,  SK Seri Perling 2 in Johor Bahru and SJKC Convent Datuk Keramat in Penang.

“We firmly believe that education is the key to improving a child’s life. We have 23 SAP students here in SJKT Ladang North Hummock and they will receive our sponsorship until they complete primary school.

“I hope that all students here will now be able to enjoy meals at the canteen without having to wait long for their turn,” Lee added.

Since the Foundation’s inception, it has spent RM1 million in assisting schools. But the main focus of the Foundation is the SAP, which supports basic educational needs for underprivileged students in primary, secondary and tertiary levels.
