Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today (Dec 1) registered with the National Digital Identity or Digital ID, making him the first individual in the country to have Digital ID facilities.
Digital ID is a form of identification and self-verification of individuals digitally, which will be used by the public and private sectors, to verify the identity of users when making transactions online.
Without replacing the MyKad system, Digital ID is a trusted and secure platform, as well as facilitating online identity verification to prevent identity fraud in online transactions.
With Anwar who is also the Minister of Finance already registered with Digital ID, it will give confidence to the people about the security and transparency of the system.
On 21 November last, Anwar announced an immediate allocation of RM80 million to the research and development (R&D) agency Mimos Bhd, to speed up the implementation of Digital ID and empower digital transformation, as well as develop digital initiatives especially involving dealings with the government.
Anwar also reportedly said that Digital ID registration is also the first step in the provision of targeted subsidies, as well as various other facilities by government departments and the private sector.
