More than 12,000 Participates In Multi-States National Anti-Scam Tour 2023

The National Anti-Scam Tour 2023, which was implemented in five states including Putrajaya has attracted more than 12,000 physical and virtual participants concluded today.

The tour, which was concluded today, which was happening throughout the year was concluded with the last edition of the tour in Wilayah Persekutuan Putrajaya, after other states including Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, and Sarawak.

Led by CyberSecurity Malaysia, as the expert and technical agency in cyber security under the ministry, the initiative aims to inform and disseminate information to educate and raise awareness amongst the public on financial crime and scams.

The tour involved seminars, forums and dialog with cyber security experts and mini exhibition carried out by Anti-scam Action Coalition (GBAS) members and the programme’s strategic partners to educate and raise awareness on the matter.

Communication and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil said programme to raise awareness and educate the public is important because despite various efforts implemented, there is no guaranteee of total security or that one can be 100% free of cyber attacks and threat.

Cyber999 Cyber Incident Reference Center, which is being managed by CyberSecurity Malaysia has recorded online fraud recorded the highest cases among the cyber security incidents reported, with 3,447 cases or 63% of 5,480 of the total cases reported from January to November this year.

“I hope the National Anti-Scam Tour can be continued and expanded to other states,” Fahmi said during the welcoming speech at the officiating ceremony of the National Anti-Scam Tour 2023 conclusion.

Fahmi added the idea for the programme came from GBAS comprises of multiple government agencies, private organisation, industry players, non-governmental organisation (NGOs), associations and tertiary educational institutions (IPTs).

“At the state level, the programme is supported and in collaboration with State Secretary Offices, including IPTs in respective states, which became the host of venues involved in the tour.”

Aside from that, Fahmi said, a book entitled “Trend Terkini Jenayah Komersil’ was published by the Commercial Crime Investigation Department in collaboration with CelcomDigi Bhd and Whoscall.

The guide include topics such as importance of privacy and personal data protection, online sharing risk, cyber bullying and introductions of various scams as well as the ways to prevent it.

Meanwhile, CyberSecurity Malaysia also published an infographic book on the prevention tips and cyber security awareness entitled “CyberSAFEkah Anda? Tips dan Amalan Terbaik Keselamatan Siber”, he said.

“Besides that, Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) had taken an initiative to train more 500 bank officers to carry out scam awareness programme that has benefitted more than 30,500 Malaysians nationwide,” added Fahmi.
