Nurhisham, Syed Hamadah Top Contenders To Succeed As EPF CEO

In the wake of Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan’s appointment as Finance Minister II following a recent Cabinet reshuffle by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, the Employees Provident Fund (EPF) is gearing up for a transitional phase, with the initiation of an acting CEO.

NST reported, their sources suggested that, for the interim period, the fund is likely to appoint either its current Chief Operating Officer or Chief Financial Officer to temporarily lead the organization.

Potential candidates for the permanent role of CEO have surfaced, with former EPF Chief Strategy Officer Nurhisham Hussein and Tabung Haji CEO Syed Hamadah Syed Othman emerging as frontrunners. Both candidates bring a wealth of experience and expertise to the table, having served in significant roles within the financial sector.

The departure of Amir Hamzah Azizan, who assumed his role at the EPF in March 2021, comes after the secondment of Nurhisham Hussein to the Prime Minister’s Office in October, where he currently serves as Senior Director of Economics and Finance.

Syed Hamadah Syed Othman, the current CEO of Tabung Haji, previously held the position of EPF CEO from 2018 to 2020 and is once again in the spotlight as a potential successor.

The EPF assures stakeholders that the upcoming leadership transition will be a meticulously planned process to ensure the fund’s continued success and stability.
