Taylor’s University Hosts Spring Festival Gala: Celebrating 50 Years Of China-Malaysia Diplomatic Relations

The grounds of Taylor’s Lakeside Campus came alive with vibrant festivities as the China Students and Scholars Association in Malaysia hosted the 50th Anniversary of China-Malaysia Diplomatic Relations Chinese New Year Gala, last Saturday. Over 500 local and international Chinese students from various universities across Malaysia gathered to commemorate this auspicious occasion in the Lunar Calendar, fostering cultural exchange and strengthening ties amidst their academic pursuits.

People’s Republic of China in Malaysia, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, His Excellency Ouyang Yujing and Malaysia-China Friendship Association, President, Dato’ Abdul Majid Ahmad Khan, graced the event, acknowledging the significance of the partnerships forged in promoting international relations and fostering mutual understanding between nations.

According to Taylor’s University, Vice-Chancellor and President, Professor Barry Winn, the university’s commitment to championing international relations and multicultural diversity was evident in the vibrant celebration. “Today’s Chinese New Year Gala is a testament to our dedication to creating a home away from home for our Chinese students, who constitute our largest international student cohort,” Professor Winn remarked.

The gala featured a plethora of activities, including cultural showcases and lucky draws, with sponsored airline tickets by China Southern Airlines up for grabs. With vibrant decorations adorning the venue and food and beverage booths offering tantalizing treats, the event provided an inclusive environment for students to celebrate the Year of the Dragon, forging new friendships and creating lasting memories.

As the evening drew to a close, students expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to partake in the festivities, highlighting the significance of cultural exchange and camaraderie in their academic journey.

The celebration not only marked a milestone in China-Malaysia diplomatic relations but also underscored Taylor’s University’s commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive learning environment for its international student community.
