Malaysia To Build Non-Subsidised Petrol Stations

With the impending lifting of subsidy for petrol for certain class of the community and existing instruction for foreign vehicles to pay full price, there bound to have confusion at the station even more so for foreign vehicle users. To allay this issue, the Malaysian government has approved for the construction of two non-subsidised petrol stations specifically in the Thailand bordering state of Kelantan.

State KPDN director Azman Ismail said the Rantau Panjang station’s construction is underway, and the Jeli station is awaiting a system conversion from subsidised to non-subsidised, pending approval from the Finance Ministry.

“We already have a non-subsidised petrol station in Padang Besar, Perlis,” he said after launching the fourth branch of Raja Perfume in Bandar Baru Jelawat today.

Azman said introducing these petrol stations would address the problem of foreign nationals rushing to refuel at any station in the state and contribute to eliminating petrol and diesel smuggling to neighbouring countries.

The new stations are hoped to stop foreign petrol consumers from taking of the subsidy meant for only Malaysians, while there has been strict rule for stations to not offer subsidised fuel to foreign vehicles, reports have emerged on some of them continue to disregard the order.
