CelcomDigi Launches Malaysia’s First Metaverse Learning Initiative

CelcomDigi Berhad (“CelcomDigi”) has unveiled an innovative educational platform, CelcomDigi Metaversity™. The initiative, introduced through the company’s Innovation Centre, pioneers the use of metaverse, extended reality (XR), and artificial intelligence (AI) technologies to revolutionise tertiary education.

With a focus on developing future talents in AI-based emerging technologies, CelcomDigi Metaversity™ harnesses the power of 5G and fiber connectivity to provide immersive learning experiences.

By blending metaverse, XR, AI, and robotics into its curriculum, the initiative offers students hands-on digital learning experiences within a virtual environment, fostering deep technical expertise and in-demand competencies.

Students enrolled in CelcomDigi Metaversity™’s immersive learning courses will receive certifications from VIRNECT and XRA upon completion, validating their proficiency in metaverse technologies.

The initiative has already integrated multiple use-cases across various faculties in collaboration with six local universities, spanning fields such as healthcare, engineering, robotics, cybersecurity, and more.

A key collaborator in this endeavor is the Ministry of Higher Education, with the initiative officially launched by Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Datuk TS. Mustapha Sakmud. CelcomDigi and the ministry are working together to implement metaverse, XR, and AI learning solutions in 21 universities nationwide.

Additionally, 10 universities including Universiti Malaya (UM), Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (UniSZA), and Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM), have committed to adopting CelcomDigi Metaversity™’s immersive learning modules. As the preferred connectivity provider for these institutions, CelcomDigi will provide fiber connectivity and digital IoT solutions to support their transformation journey.

Commenting on the initiative, Mustapha saidd, “Metaverse learning and education is an innovative method that opens many possibilities for our future talents to seize and experience.”

Meanwhile, CelcomDigi, CEO, Datuk Idham Nawawi emphasised the importance of preparing Malaysia’s future talents for the AI-driven world, leveraging technologies like 5G, AI, and IoT to enhance education and training.

CelcomDigi’s Metaversity™ initiative, launched in collaboration with VIRNECT and XRA, aims to produce industry-ready graduates skilled in metaverse applications, contributing to Malaysia’s digital growth and innovation.

Through initiatives like CelcomDigi Metaversity™, Malaysia is poised to lead the way in adopting innovative education solutions, preparing its workforce for the challenges and opportunities of the future.
