KPDN To Enforce Maximum Price Scheme For Aidilfitri Festival Season

Ahead of this year’s Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration, the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) will implement the Maximum Price Scheme for the 2024 Hari Raya Aidilfitri Celebration Season which will come into force from 5 April to 19 April 2024.

The implementation period is for 15 days which is 5 days before the festival, 1 day during the festival and 9 days after the festival.

A total of 22 types of goods have been gazetted for the implementation of the 2024 Hari Raya Aidilfitri Maximum Price Scheme and  among the list of goods are as follows: Local beef (except betel nut meat) (*Maximum price in the Peninsula only); Imported buffalo meat (*Maximum price in the Peninsula, Sabah and WP Labuan only); Imported beef (*Maximum price in Sarawak only); Tomatoes; Red chili; Imported round cabbage (Indonesia and China, excluding Beijing); Long beans; Cucumber; Mustard green; and Imported old ginger.

The 2024 Hari Raya Aidilfitri Festival Maximum Price Scheme will be enforced through the Price Control and Anti-Profitability Act (AKHAP) 2011 and allows price determination to be made at the producer, wholesaler and retailer levels.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (KPKM) also implements continuous monitoring to ensure that the supply of goods is sufficient.

Price checks can be made through the KPDN website at https://www.kpdn.gov.my. KPDN Enforcement Officers throughout the country which will carry out continuous inspections and monitoring in strategic locations such as public markets, farmers’ markets and shopping centers for festival essentials.

This approach allows enforcement to be carried out more effectively and immediate action can be taken against user complaints in the event of non-compliance.

In a statement released by the ministry today (Apr 2), Minister of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali said strict action will be taken against any trader who fails to comply with the regulations under this scheme through AKHAP 2011 and may be penalized as follows: (i) The offense of selling controlled price goods above the maximum price: (a) Individuals; may be fined by the court up to RM100,000 or imprisoned not exceeding three years or both or compounded up to RM50,000; and (b) the Company; can be fined up to RM500,000 or compounded up to RM250,000. (ii) The offense of failing to place a pink price tag for controlled price items: (a) Individuals; can be fined by the court up to RM10,000 or compounded up to RM5,000; and (b) the Company; can be fined up to RM20,000 or compounded up to RM10,000.
