HATI Initiative Aims To Capture Growing USD5 Trillion Global Halal Market

Tengku Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz, Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry today (July 15) highlighted that Malaysia’s halal exports reached RM54 billion in 2023, but this figure represents a small fraction of the country’s total exports. To address this, the Halal Industrial Master Plan (HIMP) 2030, part of the New Industrial Master Plan (NIMP) 2030, aims to enhance industry capabilities and create a more conducive environment for growth.

During the launching event of the Halal Accreditation & Technology Improvement (HATI) at MITI Tower, Tengku Zafrul noted that this significant event marks a key step in reinforcing Malaysia’s position as a global leader in the halal industry.

Additionally, he emphasised that the HATI initiative is designed to revolutionize the halal accreditation process by incorporating advanced technologies. This initiative will streamline certification, reduce inefficiencies, and help Malaysian businesses meet global halal standards. It also supports Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) through capacity building and technological adoption, which are crucial for economic resilience and sustainability.

Tengku Zafrul emphasised the importance of capturing a share of the growing global halal market, projected to reach USD5 trillion by 2030. The HATI initiative will strengthen Malaysia’s halal ecosystem, improve market access, and foster innovation within the industry.

He also noted that the success of HATI relies on collaboration among stakeholders, including the Halal Development Corporation and the Department for Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM). The initiative will be monitored through regular progress reports, with the next Report Card Day scheduled for Thursday.

In closing, Tengku Zafrul commended the Malaysian Industrial Development Finance Berhad (MIDF) and the Halal Development Corporation for their leadership and support. He also suggested exploring the export of Malaysia’s halal certification services to other countries, reflecting the growing international demand for Malaysian halal standards.

The HATI initiative is expected to enhance the efficiency and transparency of halal accreditation, contributing significantly to Malaysia’s economic growth and global competitiveness in the halal market.
