MYNIC Expects 10% Increase In .my Domain By 2025

MYNIC, an agency under the Digital Ministry, has announced an anticipated increase of 5-10% in .my domain registrations by both local and international users. This projection is based on the estimated 400,000 users expected by the end of the year.

The agency has reported a significant surge in domain applications, particularly from the food, IT, cryptocurrency, and banking sectors. This rise in demand is attributed to the shift towards online platforms during the pandemic, which prompted many traditional businesses to secure domain names and establish an online presence. The government has supported this digital transition by offering grants and incentives to micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) to digitalize their operations.

Despite the unique appeal of the .my domain, which represents Malaysia’s initials, uptake remains relatively low. In response, MYNIC has launched several campaigns to boost registrations, including a chance for applicants to win RM200,000. These efforts aim to increase the visibility and adoption of the .my domain among businesses and individuals both locally and internationally.

The COVID-19 pandemic acted as a catalyst for digital transformation across various sectors. Many traditional businesses, which had previously operated solely offline, began to recognize the importance of an online presence. As a result, there was a notable increase in applications for the .my domain, particularly from industries such as food, IT, cryptocurrency, and banking. This trend highlights the growing awareness and importance of digitalization in the modern economy.

Government Support for Digitalization

To facilitate this transition, the government introduced several initiatives aimed at supporting MSMEs in their digital journey. These initiatives included financial grants and incentives designed to help businesses digitalize their operations and transition to online platforms. By easing the financial burden associated with digital transformation, the government aims to foster a more digitally inclusive economy.

In an effort to further promote the .my domain, MYNIC has rolled out several campaigns and incentives. One of the most notable campaigns offers applicants a chance to win RM200,000. Such initiatives are designed to raise awareness about the benefits of the .my domain and encourage more businesses and individuals to adopt it.

With the projected increase in .my domain registrations, MYNIC is optimistic about the future of digitalization in Malaysia. The combination of increased demand from various sectors, government support, and targeted promotional campaigns is expected to drive significant growth in the adoption of .my domains. As more businesses and individuals recognize the value of having a unique Malaysian online identity, the .my domain is poised to become a crucial element of the country’s digital landscape.
