IKEA Malaysia hosted its inaugural IKEA Blueprint 2025 event today at IKEA Batu Kawan, outlining the company’s main objectives for the coming year. Central to their strategy is maintaining affordability amid a sluggish retail market, with a continued focus on making well-designed and sustainable home furnishings accessible to more Malaysians.
Malcolm Pruys, Country Retail Director of IKEA Malaysia, emphasised, “At IKEA, our vision has always been to create a better everyday life for the many people. Amid rising costs, our purpose to cater for people’s dreams, needs, and frustrations is stronger than ever. Whether it’s thinner wallets, smaller living spaces, or the desire for better sleep. In 2025, we remain committed to helping our customers create a better life at home, and making it more affordable than they imagine.”
The 2023 IKEA Life at Home report reveals that over one-third of Malaysians are concerned about their household finances and disposable income (38%), followed closely by concerns about the state of the economy (36%). Pruys noted, “Affordability is the cornerstone of the IKEA business. In the current economic climate, we understand that people are generally more mindful when it comes to spending on home furnishing. With inflation easing, we believe that this is the time for retailers like IKEA to invest in pricing instead of profit, to ensure that as many people as possible can afford home solutions that cater to their needs.”
To this end, IKEA is reducing prices for over 2,000 of its most popular products, following a previous price cut for more than 300 items earlier in the year. Pruys clarified that the New Lower Price initiative is not a discount but a promise to ensure good quality home furnishings are accessible to everyone.
Sustainability remains a key focus, with IKEA aiming to enhance its environmentally friendly practices. The company is expanding its fleet with nine additional electric vehicles (EVs) for last-mile deliveries by the end of 2024, increasing the total to 12 EVs. Another 10 EVs are planned for 2025, as IKEA strives to achieve 100% sustainable home deliveries by 2030. “With e-commerce comprising 16.5% of total revenue in FY24, expanding our EV fleet is key to our omnichannel growth strategy. A total of 8,567 deliveries were made through EV last year, and we are excited to see this number grow as we transition to more sustainable transport solutions,” Pruys added.
The company has also unveiled a range of new offerings for 2025. Recognising the importance of sleep, IKEA is launching the IKEA Snooze Fest throughout September, highlighting affordable essentials to improve sleep quality. The IKEA Life at Home report indicates that more than a third of Malaysians see sleep as crucial for mental wellbeing, with a significant portion experiencing insomnia.
New collections for 2025 include BRÄNNBOLL for casual gamers, the forest-inspired SKOGSDUVA collection for children, and functional items from the GRAFJÄLLET collection. IKEA has also collaborated with a social business to support female artisans through the MÄVINN collection, featuring handmade crafts such as baskets, rugs, and cushion covers. Seasonal favourites like FÖSSTA, VINTERFINT, and GOKVÄLLÅ will also return for the festive seasons.
“There’s so much in store for the 2025 financial year. We’re excited for what’s to come as we continue to prioritise bringing affordable, sustainable, and innovative products to our customers. We look forward to welcoming more Malaysians into the IKEA Family and becoming their go-to destination for good quality home furnishing solutions,” concluded Pruys.
