Pope Tells Singapore Leaders To Pay Better Wages To Migrant Workers

Pope Francis who is on an official visit to Singapore a leading financial hub urged political leaders to seek fair wages for the country’s million plus migrant workers.

Reuters reported that the Pope who has been on an ambitious 12 day tour across Southeast Asia and Oceanio, will probably ne makigng his last major speech before he leaves the region.

‘I hope that special attention will be paid to poor and the elderly, as well as to protecting the dignity of migrant workers’ said the Pope in address to about 1000 politicians and civil and religious leaders.

“These workers contribute a great deal to the society and should be guarenteed a fair wage” he said.

There were 1.1 million migrant workers on work permits in Singaoire who earned less than S$3000 per month.
