Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to advancing Malaysia’s digital transformation and digital economy as essential components for enhancing the country’s industrial economic complexity.
In a recent post on X, Anwar outlined the government’s goal to position Malaysia as a leading generative artificial intelligence (AI) hub, both regionally and globally. He emphasized the importance of strengthening digital infrastructure through collaboration with investors and partners.
Notably, Anwar highlighted Amazon Web Services (AWS) as a key partner in Malaysia’s digital transformation journey. He stated, “The launch of the AWS Region, along with its 15-year investment plan, demonstrates AWS’s unwavering long-term commitment to Malaysia.”
AWS’s investment of RM29.2 billion in the AWS (Malaysia) Region project is projected to contribute RM57.3 billion to Malaysia’s gross domestic product (GDP) between 2024 and 2038. Furthermore, the investment is expected to create over 3,500 jobs directly through new data centres.
