Malaysia, Japan Forge Strategic Hydrogen Alliance At World Expo 2025

Malaysia and Japan have formalised a strategic hydrogen partnership at the World Expo 2025 in Osaka, marking a significant step toward a sustainable regional hydrogen economy.

Hypertech Industries Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of NanoMalaysia Bhd, signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Japan’s Hydronext Inc at the Malaysia Pavilion.

The partnership aims to advance hydrogen technology integration across the value chain, from production and processing to transport and remote electrification.

The exchange was officiated by NanoMalaysia Chief Executive Officer and Hypertech Industries Director Dr Rezal Khairi Ahmad and Hydronext Chief Executive Officer Masaaki Nagai, witnessed by Malaysia’s Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation Secretary General, Datuk Seri Hasnol Zam Zam Ahmad.

“This partnership supports Malaysia’s Hydrogen Economy and Technology Roadmap and will catalyse private sector investments,” said Dr Rezal.

Hydronext’s expertise in hydrogen purification complements Hypertech Industries’ innovations in hydrogen production and storage, including the proprietary HyPEReactor.

The MoU reflects Malaysia’s commitment to clean energy transition through international collaboration and positions both nations as key players in the global hydrogen economy.
