Betamek Bhd, a prominent original design manufacturer and electronics manufacturing services (EMS) provider for the automotive industry, is partnering up with Singapore-based innovator in genetic testing technologies SiGenex Global Holdings Pte Ltd to co-develop a next-generation, artificial intelligence (AI)-integrated genomics diagnostics and sequencing solution.
The collaboration, which marks Betamek’s strategic expansion into the high-growth biotech sector, focuses on leveraging both companies’ expertise to fast-track the design-for-manufacturing and scalability of SiGenex’s proprietary Benchtop Integrated Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) platform.
The innovative platform is powered by cutting-edge Digital Microfluidics (DMF) technology, enabling cost-effective, high-precision DNA/RNA sequencing for point-of-care diagnostics.
Under the partnership, Betamek will provide end-to-end support including engineering design, manufacturing protocols and facility setup compliant with ISO and GMP standards.
Betamek will also establish dedicated production lines for DMF cartridges and platform components, while SiGenex will supply technical specifications and lead the platform’s commercial rollout via hospitals, clinics and laboratories across global markets.
The collaboration is further supported by Malaysia’s broader national ambition to lead in high-tech and AI-enabled industries. It follows the March 2025 launch of Betamek’s state-of-the-art R&D Centre in Rawang, officiated by Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz. The facility is designed to accelerate R&D in telematics, Internet of Things-connected mobility and smart sensor technologies.
Upon successful validation of the NGS platform, SiGenex plans to exclusively outsource manufacturing and assembly for the Asia region to Betamek, contingent on a future binding agreement.
The two companies aim to finalise a Definitive Agreement within the next twelve months, solidifying a long-term manufacturing partnership.
