The stock market closed weaker on Aug 8 despite gains in selected blue chip counters, with decliners outpacing gainers 541 to 448, while 494 counters were unchanged, 1,030 were untraded and nine were suspended.
Turnover rose to 2.43 billion shares worth RM2.22 billion compared to 2.21 billion shares worth RM2.35 billion on Aug 7.
Nestle (M) Bhd topped the decliners list with a loss of RM2.30 to RM87.50, followed by Fraser & Neave Holdings Bhd, which shed 70 sen to RM27.50, PPB Group Bhd eased 18 sen to RM9.12, British American Tobacco (Malaysia) Bhd declined 16 sen to RM4.91 and Pentamaster Corporation Bhd slipped 14 sen to RM3.69.
On the upside, Petronas Gas Bhd topped the gainers list, climbing 52 sen to RM18.68, followed by United Plantations Bhd, which grew 22 sen to RM21.78, while Dutch Lady Milk Industries Bhd and Far East Holdings Bhd each added 20 sen to close the trading week at RM27.60 and RM4.20 respectively. Rounding up the top gainers, Heineken Malaysia Bhd also gained 20 sen to RM23.42.
