Anwar Unveils Bigger Budget Of RM470 Billion For 2026

Prime Minister Dato’ Sri Anwar Ibrahim unveils Budget 2026 to the Parliament, first tabling. In his opening remarks, Anwar called the budget a ‘national rejuvenation budget’ with an optimistic outlook of 4% to 4.5% economic growth in 2026.

In his opening remarks, the PM also highlighted that Malaysia’s inflation trend has remained stable around 2 to 3% over the past fourteen years, from 2010 to 2024, based on the Economic Outlook 2026 report released by the Ministry of Finance today.

The total budget allocation is at RM470 billion.

Additionally, Anwar is optimistic that federal government revenue collection is pegged to rise to RM343.1 billion in the 2025 fiscal year, an increase of RM9 billion from the projected RM334.1 billion.

The Prime Minister stated that Budget 2026 will utilise national resources, as public spending is expected to increase to RM470 billion this year, from RM452 billion in the previous year.

These national resources will include GLIC funds, federal bodies and government-linked firms. Furthermore, Anwar added that the MADANI government is committed to balancing national development with the well-being of its citizens, with quality of life remaining a priority across all segments of society.

Economic resilience is the pillar of Budget 2026, the fourth Budget presented by the MADANI government.

While Anwar has called this a ‘budget for the people’, the RM470 billion is designed to also drive economic growth, with a view to ensuring equitable distribution of the nation’s wealth.
