Pos Malaysia has launched a new passport service collaboration with the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia in Kota Kinabalu, aimed at improving access and convenience for Indonesian citizens living in Sabah and the Federal Territory of Labuan.
The initiative allows Indonesian citizens to submit passport applications in Kota Kinabalu and receive their completed passports via Pos Malaysia’s Pos Laju courier service across Sabah.
Applicants may also opt to collect their documents from the nearest post office, expanding access for communities outside major urban centres.
The service was officially launched on Jan 17, 2026, at a ceremony held in Labuan and officiated by the Consul General of the Republic of Indonesia in Kota Kinabalu, Noorman Effendi, with representatives from both the consulate and Pos Malaysia in attendance.
The collaboration removes the need for applicants to remain in Kota Kinabalu while awaiting passport processing, reducing travel and accommodation costs, minimising time away from work and family, and offering a more secure and efficient application process.
Around 150,000 Indonesians residing in Sabah and Labuan are expected to benefit from the initiative, which strengthens cross-border service delivery through cooperation between a government agency and a national service provider.
Building on the launch, Pos Malaysia plans to progressively expand the passport delivery service to other Indonesian diplomatic and consular offices in Malaysia.
These include the Indonesian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur as well as consulates in Penang, Johor Bahru, Kuching and Tawau.
This move enables broader nationwide access to secure passport delivery through Pos Malaysia’s network.
The rollout reflects Pos Malaysia’s broader role in supporting public services through its nationwide last-mile delivery infrastructure.
